Welcome to Internet Advancement.

Units can now submit advancement for unit youth members on line.  Use Internet Advancement for the following:

  • Add ranks, merit badges, and awards
  • Update information on existing advancements (except Eagle Scout Rank)
  • Get a copy of your Unit Roster that includes registration ID numbers for all members at any time of the year.  A registration ID number, which is also printed on your membership card, is necessary for online training through BSA's elearning.
  • Access to update your unit's advancement all year round as long as the unit is chartered

To use Internet Advancement:

  1. Select a unit advancement processor.  This person must have Internet connectivity and Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 or greater.
  2. The unit advancement processor would contact the council office to obtain the unit's ID code in order to access Internet Advancement.
  3. Gather information for advancement, including merit badge applications and current (as well as past, if first time user) advancement records with dates.*
  4. Click Internet Advancement above on this page.  Follow the instructions in Internet Advancement to process advancements and print an advancement report.
  5. Have the appropriate people sign the printed unit advancement report and submit it to the council. Save a copy for your files.  Units should submit reports monthly, before the end of each month (more often if needed).
In December, submit a report before the end of the year to update unit and council statistics.

* - Due to council size and without the manpower to enter ranks until recently there may be blanks in advancement that will need to be filled in order to make Internet Advancement effective.

Software Update

3 Steps to Internet Advancement:

fleurLoad Roster - In the Load Roster Stage, the unit advancement processor accessed current unit data directly from ScoutNET.  The ScoutNET data is saved to another database in Internet Advancement.  The two databases (ScoutNET and Internet Advancement) are completely separate while the unit completes each advancement report.

fleurUpdate Member - In the Update Member Stage, the unit validates its information using the BSA's rank advancement rules.  Internet advancement checks the data against the rules and gives error messages for any violations.  The errors must be corrected before the unit processor can proceed.

fleurSubmit - When the members are updated and the data is validated, the processor submits the advancement file.  Internet Advancement sends the advancement batch for the unit to PAS and updates member records and the unit statistics, as appropriate.

 Software Update:

As of 8/5/2008

Invalid Error Correction in Internet Advancement: An invalid error message encountered in Internet Advancement when entering merit badge information for members was corrected.

Internet Advancement Welcome Page Now Linked to Scouting Forms:  The link to Advancement Forms on the Internet Advancement Welcome page has been updated and now goes to Scouting Forms.

Awards Include Multiple Person Entry:  Multiple Person entry for Troops, Teams, Crews, and Ships now includes Awards in addition to Merit Badges.  The user selects the pick list that is used during this process.  For Cub Scout Packs, the selections are Awards and Activity Badges.

Provide Extract Individual Member Record: This new feature enables a unit to obtain an individual member record for ranks and awards for each member in the unit or for selected members.  This is accessed from a new button following Unit Advancement Summary.

Load Roster Now Accepts Same AP Twice: A correction was made to allow a Cub Scout Pack to load roster if the adult roster includes two Adult Partner (AP) records for the same Person ID.  This situation can occur when twin boys have the same parent as AP and registrations for this position are appropriately on the same person record.

Add Activity Badges to Unit Advancement Summary:  The Unit Advancement Summary report was corrected to list Activity Badges that have been awarded.  Previously, these badges were not displayed in this report.

Unit May Submit Ranks and Awards Prior to Posting:  During the charter-renewal period, if the new unit renewal has not yet been posted by the council, the unit may submit ranks and awards using a current date for members who were registered in the unit as of its expiration date.  These dates must still be within the current calendar month and not a future month.  Prior month dates may also be entered.  If the unit separates, access is no longer available.

Temporary Membership Cards Include City and State:  The temporary membership cards available from Internet Advancement were corrected to display the City and State of the Chartered Organization.
